Window work has been our specialty for decades

The Home Doctors is an authorized service provider for Andersen, Marvin, Sierra Pacific (including Hurd), Weather Shield and Lincoln windows and doors. A manufacturer may send us your warranty request, or point you to us when the job isn't covered.

We've been voted the #1 handyman and window install and repair service in Marin. Not every window needs replacing, and we'll tell you honestly when one doesn't.

Before and after

Drag to see the difference

How it works

How a window replacement goes

  1. 01

    Measure

We measure every opening and check the frames for rot, which decides insert or full-frame.

  2. 02

    Order

Windows are made to size, so there's a lead time. Nothing comes out of your wall until they arrive.

  3. 03

    Install

Old units out, new units set, flashed and sealed, a few openings at a time so the house stays closed up.

  4. 04

    Finish

Trim, caulk and paint, and the permit inspection.

Every job is different

Repair or replace?

It sticks, won't lock or jumps its track

That's usually a part: a worn balance, a crank, a lock, rollers or the track. We replace the part and adjust the sash. In Belvedere-Tiburon, we repaired several Pella sliding doors for one client.

The glass is foggy between the panes

The seal on that glass unit has failed. Often we can replace just the glass and keep the frame, if the frame is sound.

The frame is soft or the windows are single-pane

That's when replacement makes sense. Rot in the sill or frame spreads into the wall, and single-pane windows lose heat no matter how well they're adjusted.

Brands we're authorized for

  • Andersen Windows & Doors
  • Marvin Windows
  • Sierra Pacific Industries (including Hurd)
  • Weather Shield
  • Lincoln Windows

For any of these, we can handle warranty requests the manufacturer sends us, order factory parts and glass, repair or replace sashes and hardware, and install new units from the same line so they match the windows you're keeping. We also work on plenty of other brands, so if your window or door is from another maker, call us anyway.

FAQ

Questions about windows and doors

Should I repair my windows or replace them?

Repair when the frame and sash are sound and the problem is a part: a worn balance, a broken lock or crank, a slider off its track, or one fogged glass unit. Replace when the frame is rotted, the window is single-pane and drafty, or parts for it aren’t made anymore. We tell you which one you have after we look.

How much does window replacement cost in Marin?

It depends on how many windows, their size, the brand and whether the old frames stay (insert replacement) or come out (full-frame). We price your job after we see it. For a public reference point, the median declared value on 422 window replacement permits in unincorporated Marin from 2023 to September 2026 was $13,896, according to County of Marin building permit records. That is the value written on the permit application, not a final invoice.

Can you fix a window that’s still under the manufacturer’s warranty?

Often, yes. We’re an authorized service provider for 5 manufacturers, so the maker may send us your warranty request. Call the manufacturer first with your order or serial number, and tell them you’d like The Home Doctors to do the work.

Do you install windows you didn’t sell?

Yes. We install and service plenty of brands beyond the ones we’re authorized for, including parts, glass and repairs. If you’ve already bought your windows or doors, we can install them.

Do window replacements need a permit?

In most of Marin and San Francisco, yes. Replacing windows usually needs a building permit, and homes in wildfire areas may need fire-rated glass. We pull the permits and book the inspections.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. The Home Doctors holds California contractor license #1154343 (B, General Building Contractor), and we are fully insured.
